Katarina began to skate at the age of five old. She was only five when her talents became apparent, and then in Karl-Marx-Stadt she entered the school that was specifically made for kids with athletic abilities. Here she first had a conversation with their teacher Jutta M ller. Witt achieved her breakthrough in the second position she placed in the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Her grace and elegance captured everybody's eye at that time, and from then forward she began to dominate the competition. Olympic success In Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for figure skating in women's after a fiercely contested contest. Four years later she took home an even tighter contest. The free skating contest, however she won the gold medal upon her results in the mandatory figures as well as the short programme. Witt became the first woman to win in both women's and men's figure-skating since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame Witt was capable of returning to figure skating after her accomplishments in the film industry as an actor. She competed in Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. The crowd was captivated by her, despite the fact that she finished seventh. Witt was elected to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame by its members in the year 1995.
