The meaning that adults have in biology is a term used to describe an animal that is with the capacity to reproduce. Within the human realm, adult refers to legal and social concepts. In contrast to "minor" (or "non-adult" an legal adult is an individual that has reached the age of an age at which they are majority. They are regarded as competent, responsible and independent. The term "major" is a term used to describe these individuals. Age 18 is as the age of legal maturity, however, this definition may differ by country, legal rights or mental development.

If a person attains full intellectual and physical maturity, this is called adulthood. Adulthood is typically thought of as beginning at age 20 or 21. Old age is about 60 years after middle age. In adulthood there are three distinct phases: Early adulthood (18-30 years), Middle Adulthood (30-60 years) and late adulthood (60%-60%). As we enter early adulthood, our body has reached its physical maturity to the maximum. However, our height and our weight can increase. During young adulthood we reach the peak of our physical ability.
